Maistra160 – a new Hotel for Pontresina | OPENING SOMMER 2023
With Maistra160, a newly conceived hotel is being built in the middle of the Engadine holiday village of Pontresina. On the main road, Via Maistra 160 boasts 36 rooms and ten serviced apartments, along with an outstanding SPA infrastructure, restaurant, bar, terrace, and creative workspace - the Creative Box. Additionally, the popular Pöstli cellar will be revived. The concept has been developed around the changing habits of modern holiday makers, convenience and comfort is the key. The style is high Alpine, purist and functional. It bears the signature of the renowned architect Gion A. Caminada from Grisons. After an intensive planning phase, construction work started in May 2020. The opening of the 4-star superior hotel is planned for summer 2023. In May 2022 the starting signal was given for the construction of the new staff house belonging to the hotel. A total of 19 units in various sizes with lounge, fitness, garden, laundry room, garage spaces and charging stations will be available to employees.
Who are you dealing with - who is behind the new hotel project?
Bettina and Richard Plattner, as initiators, developers and owners, have launched the ambitious hotel project. The entrepreneurial couple already brought a breath of fresh air to the touristic Engadine landscape ten years ago. With their ALPINE LODGES, they offer stylish holiday apartments in modern alpine architecture. Three lodges with their own fitness and wellness area are centrally located in Pontresina - a wide range of additional services from a stocked fridge to a personal trainer can be booked individually. Bettina and Richard Plattner have been a well-coordinated team with a lot of experience as a management duo in the hotel industry for almost 30 years. They always approach their projects with commitment and passion - thinking and acting in a solution-oriented and pragmatic way. Plattner & Plattner will own and operate an accommodation company with around 200 beds following the completion of the Hotel Maistra160.
For the operational management Irene and Martin Müller have been gained. The successful hotelier couple ran the Parkhotel Bellevue in Adelboden for 5.5 years and the Hotel Castell in Zuoz for the last 7 years. They are an integral part of the Engadine hotel industry and have proven themselves as born hosts on several occasions.
There are no ordinary cats – reveals the black cat from the construction site cladding – and Maistra160 will not be an ordinary hotel. You like it equally anything but conventional? After intensive preparations this spring, it is done. The Krone in La Punt has found a new general manager and chef in James Baron. After two years as Chef de cuisine at the 2 Michelin Starred Amber restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental hotel, Hong Kong. he has chosen the fresh, cool mountain air of the Upper Engadine. In mid-June he returned to Switzerland with his small, growing family, the country he knows very well from his time with Didier de Courten and Andreas Caminada.
The last few months have seen a lot of activity to realise the relaunch of the Krone. A new name, a new logo, a new website, the façade has been painted, a team of new and old has been put together and further innovations and projects are in the pipeline.
